DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

Profile:
Zoology has been a principal subject of the science curriculum at under graduate level. Keeping this in view to give an insight in to anatomical, Physiological and Pathological, behavioral and Sociological aspects of animals and man the Department of zoology was established in the year 1975 with strength of 28 students and 2 lecturers. Now it has grown to a modest strength of 200 students.
Objectives:

To impart knowledge of various animals and their distribution.
To make students have a better understanding of man as unity of structure and function is same in all animals.
To give insight in to anatomical, physiological, pathological, psychological, behavioural and socio logical aspects of animals and man.
To involve students in intra institutional and extenction activities.
To persue their future endeavours confidently with the skills & orientation.
To make them more confident and creative to face the challeges of their careers.
Healthy Practices:

The in charge of the department is chief warden for the hostel. As a part of social responsibility she interacts with students regularly and identifies the problems of hostel students.
Counseling is given to the students to give positive outlook.
Financial assistance is given to the students in need by the staff members.
To improve the attendance of students and to reduce the percentage of drop outs the staff members of the department visit the houses of the students under “Meemantha Mee intiki” programme.
Our members visited a local orphanage to distribute school bags and food items to the children on occasion of national festivals like Republic Day and Independence Day.
Field trips are arranged for the final year students to bring awareness about the Aqua culture techniques and to show the live examples of fishes.

Department is equipped with 2 Labs.
Lab 1 measures 107.02 sq mtrs.
Lab 2 measures 60 sq. mts.
Lab 1 has 4 small rooms.
2 rooms measure 26.75 sq. mts.
Department has a Library with reading facility.
A Material room for storing dissection material.
A Museum with models of Dinosaurs, a number of exotic species, models showing evolution of man, human skeleton and human embryos.
